It happened so suddenly late one day

The sky turned smokey

Leaving the sun into disarray

It felt like a scene from hell

The disproportionate colors

Gave us a story to tell

I was mesmerized by the mystifying scene

As I walked, I paused to take a closer look

It wasn’t like anything I’d ever seen

The sun became burnt orange

A dark red that was out of place

I took shots of it without realizing

How bad the air would become in space

It didn’t dawn on me how much things would change

Until the next day, when it smelt like fire

As I walked outside, it was like a dark sky full of rage

It was so unforgiving in its haunting look

That I didn’t know how to react

All I knew was that the Canadian wildfires had us shook

For a while, all you saw was fog around

Along with an unnerving haze

That made you look down and frown

The sun turning burnt orange

Was a life lesson for us

It wasn’t a picture perfect postcard

But rather something worse in the universe

We aren’t always able to tell why

Nature can create chaos in an imperfect world

It’s almost like the mind-numbing sky cried

The toxic air only got worse each day

Making for a health hazard

To stay inside more over yesterday

Now, it’s returned to turn the moon dark red

I studied it last night and wondered

As I lay awake in bed

If only things were better up north

The smog is unrelenting

That can affect our areas down here

Rain is approaching by the weekend

That’ll cool things off and bring hope

Hopefully, it’ll help clear things up to an end

If this were art, I’d like burnt orange

Instead, we need it to disappear

And bring back the beautiful sky

While nicer colors reappear

For us to chill by the bay

Take in the sights and sounds

Let’s take flight like Air Jordan and hang around

Enjoy the sand and sea

It’ll fulfill us with glee

Hit the waves for a few

It’s a cool thing to do

The first time we met, you were nice

Easy on the eyes as cold as ice

Your precious face like a beautiful sunset

Full of magic, I’ll never forget

You have a glow

That can light up a Broadway show

That would look wonderful underneath the snow

I don’t know you too well

But I can tell that you’re swell

You have a great way about you

No wonder I find you so true

You carry yourself like a shining star

That can light up the dark and see very far

It’s what makes you so unique

I think you’re le magnifique

You’re a rockstar with plenty of swag

You look so good, you belong on the cover of a mag

Just someone special with a fly style

Damn right, you got a pretty smile

That intrigues me to want to get to know

The sunset will arrive soon

It’s still in plain sight for us to see

Painting the sky full of pure fantasy

Which reminds me of your friendly face

Your pretty smile that should make my heart race

Or those eyes that can light up the day

It’s your warmth that makes me wish I’d stay

Summer brings with it so much excitement

There’s something special like an enlightenment

That creates a feeling in the air

It’s one that makes it the best time of year

Then, there’s you always staying true

You seem to be someone who’s cool

I see it in how kindhearted you are

Your warmth is what makes you a shining star

Late at night, I’m lying awake in bed

When I suddenly had a vision of you instead

Your laugh is one that makes me smile

No wonder I wish we could talk for a while

Maybe go down by the ocean and enjoy the night

Hang out, chill, and make things out of sight

It’s not too hard anymore to envision

Your warmth is genuine like us kissing

I can see your beautiful image with ease

It’s like your work of art holds all the keys

To a paradise where we can be alone

Instead of constantly staring at our phones

How did it all start

Was I asleep when you saw me

I had lost my way

Something changed on that fateful day

I didn’t know it at the time

I was left breathless without much to say

Just a look gave me a reason to rhyme

I knew I’d be back at some point

I didn’t know when but knew why

It was a while before I saw you again

You looked excited to see me and caught me by surprise

It wasn’t until then that I felt alive

I began to like you and wonder

You made me feel like someone

I hadn’t thought that way in forever

Maybe it was your shining light

Or the way you looked at me

I started to ask how you were

You always responded quite well

I never looked at you like a number

But rather, as a dedicated person

Someone who wasn’t only a pretty face

A unique quality that I noticed almost immediately

You aren’t like other girls

There’s a cool confidence and flair

That makes for a sunny disposition

With the personality to match

That’s what created wonder

Or a certain astonishment

It’s more than just finding you attractive

The way you handle yourself is admirable

Not everyone can captivate like the stars at night

Or a perfect sunset or picturesque rainbow in the sky

You could be anything your heart desires

If I could tell you, I’d say pursue your dreams

You’re always going to be that full moon

That I can’t take my eyes off

Except you’re real and not just a postcard

You truly are a work of art

If I could draw you, I wouldn’t change a thing

From your head to your toes, you’re special

I wish I could tell you in the most polite way possible

You deserve that kind of attention

I might still be up full of wonder

It’s because you are a gem

Its pitch can be heard for so long

The wind picks up as the tide moves in the air

Like Bodhi, it isn’t tragic to die doing something you love

It happened so suddenly the other day

While I was at the park for a walk

The sun was burnt orange on Monday

It left me wondering after I had stopped

I took a few shots of the bright sky

Without realizing anything had changed

When I got back, I never asked why

Until later, the next day when things looked deranged

The first thing I noticed was the uncomfortable smell

It smelt like burnt rubber as I got to my car

The sky had morphed into hell

The sun was barely visible from afar

A foggy haze

Took over our place

Made it feel like outer space

It got worse as day became night

The smell of fire was suddenly everywhere

It felt like a soul had been burning while dimming the light

Creating an uneasy breeze along with smoke over here

There’s no escape from the chalk of gray

That’s dampened the mood outside

Paradise from a few days ago feels like yesterday

It’s been so long since then due to being trapped inside

The wildfires up north have caused unhealthy conditions

That has left fog and haze drifting around

Leaving us to make the most logical decisions

Until it dissipates, we must stay up and down
