A Friday Storm

It’s been raining for a while

The time passes by on a soggy day

Even the stormy weather can’t erase a smile

There’s still enough to appreciate today

It’s quieter than usual in this town

But with it comes perspective if you pay attention

The drops from the sky make a beating sound

It reminds us of the drums from a good song worth the mention

There’s still something unique going on

We understand it’ll eventually pass

In another day or so, it’ll be gone

The sun will return this weekend with some sass

Regardless, it should all be enjoyed just the same

All you have to do is embrace things that come our way

Treat each other well, and that’ll be your net gain

I promise you that you’ll remember such a good Friday

A Return To The Park

For a long time

I felt all alone

Without any positive signs

Or good vibes

That was me for too long

Until I opened my eyes

And stopped punishing myself

Better thoughts returned

It started one day in April

At the very same destination

A place I needed

Because it brings peace and salvation

There is a better way

To conquer demons in our heads

By thinking with our hearts

And strengthening the mind

You’ll find that by living

And enjoying the little things

Like the sea on a stormy day

With nothing but possibilities

They’re endless if you believe

Visualization is the key

To get back to loving ourselves

That way, we live in good health

A Night At The Park

“A Night At The Park”

By Derek F

It was a cool night by the park

As we walked out towards the sea

The misty rain could be felt as it became dark

Adding to the intrigue, suspense, and mystery

A boat could be seen in the distance

Passing through the area onto its destination

It would soon drift away without any resistance

Into an unknown voyage that could wind up on vacation

While we pay our respects to those fallen soldiers by the memorial

The peace and calm all around the place

Allowing us to free our minds and later journal

Its surroundings warm our hearts with grace

It isn’t hard to picture the days of summer gone by

When people enjoyed themselves on better days

By taking advantage of the park and swinging so high in the sky

Flying into orbit into another dimension full of purple haze

The rain will soon pass after a stormy Friday

Allowing for some warmer weather and sunshine

Maybe we can revisit the park on Saturday or Sunday

And then we can rediscover that rhythm and rhyme

Until then, I’ll see you at our familiar spot

Let’s chill and vibe on a good night

I’ll write some lyrics to a cool beat and take a shot

Just kick back, relax, and take in the starlight

Angel In The Sky

The orange sky

Makes us wonder why

As we take in the view

Discovering something new

Maybe it’s a sign

For a future valentine

Who has the heart of gold

Even when it gets cold

Someone with a fresh outlook

Which is all it took

Like that day by the bay

When it feels like yesterday

Angels do exist

If you just persist

All you have to do is believe

And you’ll get a reprieve

A Journey Into The 60’s

A purple haze

Can truly amaze

If we see that cloud of smoke

Dancing visions in our brain give us hope

I can see in the dark

Through magic touch and a spark

Emotions run high in VG

As we close our eyes and picture a fantasy

The sound of the park is all trippy

Time machine back to life as a hippie

An adventure into 60’s fashion

A junkies’ paradise with music flashing

Through the wonder of it all

Quite the experience from another mirror behind the wall

Into a journey where we have a ball

Don’t forget to dial collect and make that call

Sunshine of Hope

“Sunshine of Hope”

By Derek F

It’s a rainy day in the village

The storm intensifies to a feverish pitch

Gusts can be felt from inside

As the raindrops fall at a fast pace

They fire from the sky like a good fastball

That blows by an overmatched batter during a game

You can hear the swish sound the bat makes

As it misses the mark completely in search of fish

Only there’s no bait that can be found

Instead, we’re reminded of the Long Island sound

The gray overcast skies are a reminder

Indeed, it’s a soup and coffee kind of day

As we approach sunset on the first day of autumn, we’re searching for a missing light

It’s the one that invigorates us when things are quiet

A peaceful, calm existence that we enjoy in the early evening

Just give us a sign that we can catch a glimpse

Sunshine of hope

Helps us cope

Sunshine of hope

Provides enlightenment

That we can turn it around

No matter the distraction

Let’s stand proud

And get more satisfaction

Oh Heavenly Sky

Editor’s Note: This was inspired by Friday’s incredible sunset.

Oh heavenly sky

Your sweet strawberry sunset lights up the night

It makes for a magnificent sight

Creating something poetic for us to appreciate

The combination of orange and purple is a perfect canvas

Taking us into another dimension beyond comprehension

It’s a world we’ve never explored before

But its true beauty is part of its allure

You can feel the energy and electricity

It captivates us as we enjoy a lovely September night

Hot pink never looked so good

Helping to improve the mood

Oh heavenly sky

You make us ponder why

Such unique images exist that are as real as they get

That makes us believe anything can happen

“End of Day”

“End of Day”

By Derek F

The night arrives suddenly in the sky

The sunset gives way to the moonlight

Creating a trippy postcard that makes us wonder why

As we admire in astonishment, it’s a mesmerizing sight

A golden light over the dark blue

Is like a true work of art

That makes us discover something new

Its unique painting captivates like Mozart

Music can be heard in the distant background

It provides some entertainment to end a nice day

Kids can be found on the swings in the playground

As everyone has a ball and lives for today

“A Train Ride”

“A Train Ride”

By Derek F

The day is fading as we wait at the station

As the sun dissipates into evening

Our train is running late on arrival time

The clock nearly strikes eight without a sign

Things have changed so much from a while ago

Now, the night approaches sooner than before

The golden moon begins to glow

Then suddenly, there’s a familiar roar

The bell signals that the train has finally arrived

It pulls into the stop with great anticipation

We get on the train and head back home

It blows its horn and takes off like a pleasant autumn breeze

As it moves swiftly, it reminds us of a wind tunnel

We’ve never heard it before during cooler times

The night air is a harbinger of things to come

We’ll see you soon for Halloween
