“An October Day”
By Derek F
The calendar flipped
To a different script
September is gone
Now comes a new dawn
The autumn leaves have arrived
But summer still tries to stay alive
Giving us more days
To enjoy the final heatwave
Bask in the sunshine
Feel fine as we drink some wine
Music is playing for all to hear
It’s a fiesta full of lots of cheer
An October day
Allows us to play
An October day
Begs us to stay
If only it lasted forever
Then you’d be able to be clever
Perhaps we can take in one last sunset
Before it’s dark, there’s one lasting image to get
Cherish this cool time of year
Maybe even spot a deer
All as we walk through the park
And catch the moon’s spark
It isn’t too hard to see
If you stay long enough, it becomes reality
The sun slowly fades away
Proving a purple color for today
An October day
Allows us to see the light
An October day
Makes everything feel alright
