“The Dark Side”

“The Dark Side”

By Derek Felix AKA DFlex

Darkness creeps in

On a cold, blustery day

You haven’t felt numb for a while

If only it was as warm as May

Your mood is as icy as the weather

It’s a lonely existence in this place

You can’t escape the eerie quiet that keeps you silent

Leaving a blank space on your face

It isn’t easy when you struggle

An uncomfortable feeling of being stuck

Has been haunting you as you’re on the bubble

No wonder you’re down on your luck

The dark side can trap you

No one to save you from the fog ahead

It’s an empty feeling you always knew

That left you dead laying on your bed

“A Calming Affect”

“A Calming Affect”

By Derek Felix AKA DFlex

We’re all people you see everyday

Full of things on our minds in a unique way

It might seem that you assume too much

When deep down, you don’t know as such

What could I be thinking at this very time

Oh, how you’d like to know my riddle in this fly rhyme

When all I’m locked into someone who caught my eye

She’s got style and grace, and her looks are so fly

What could it be if you really knew

I’d like to explore you and make you ring true

While dangerous games are played by inquiring minds

Who are lost at sea in a sign of these dark times

What if you could tell where I really stand

If you really knew who I was instead of sinking in quicksand

The truth can be such a beautiful thing

It brings me closer to her golden ring

Do you know anything about me

Or is it a jigsaw puzzle full of intrigue and mystery

If that’s your game, you lost at the arcade in record fashion

No more quarters to continue and quench your passion

There’s a dying thirst to let her know

But first things first, I must take care of the final act of this show

That includes avoiding your hidden traps at every expense

This way, things are kept private, full of suspense

Oh, who am I if you only knew

Oh, who am I but you haven’t a clue

It’s like the groundhog seeing his shadow into deja vu

Bill Murray’s Phil destroys the alarm clock that rings saying boo

You might be a frenemy due to your ruthless ways

Yet your rivalry is useful to keep me focused on new days

It’s almost Valentine’s Day full of sweet hearts

The perfect time to tell her that she’s as sweet as pop tarts

A calming affect

Keeps things moving in style

A calmimg affect

Will always make you smile

It’s badly needed on this sunny day

When anything is possible to get our way

A calming affect

Changes your mood

A calming affect

Turns you from bad to good

It’ll give you the power to speak up

And pour a drink into a shot cup

The time is now to take action

And go for a lovely reaction till satisfaction

“Dreams or Fantasy”

“Dreams or Fantasy”

By Derek Felix AKA DFlex

We all have dreams
That we picture over the stars
Turning us into kings and queens
Driving through the air in futuristic cars

Into a galaxy far beyond
That captivates us into a flashy daze
Like the sun magnifying a pond
Flying faster than a legendary Mays

We track things we don’t often see
Then, catch a glimpse of intrigue and mystery
Creating an illusion that becomes a fantasy
Something that’s a great escape from reality

It’s the subconscious state that runs parallel
As our minds journey into a unique place
There we are at the bottom of a wishing well
It’s everything we’ve ever dreamed, like outer space

These are what dreams are made of every night
As we admire the full moon overlooking our world
It’s an electrifying light that makes it out of sight
Or something fancier like golden diamonds and pearls

It’ll make your eyes blink in admiration
Is this the real thing, or a beautiful odyssey
How we all have wandered into a dreamy vacation
That’ll always make us wonder about making real the fantasy

“The Dark Side”

“The Dark Side”

It comes out so suddenly one day

When you least expect to notice

It’s like a puzzle or unsolved mystery

Images cloud your mind making you lose focus

The forecast is foggy with patches everywhere

It becomes more noticeable as day becomes night

When things aren’t what they seem, you have trouble breathing the air

It’s almost as if darkness replaced the light

The world can become very confusing

Playing tricks on your innermost thoughts

You’ve felt run down lately and are clearly losing

You’re in a place of confusion and feel caught

The dark side is all around you

It takes control and creates panic

The dark side can make you go from code red to blue

Now, all you’re feeling is nothing but static

You don’t know how things got this way

The negative stuff crept into your mind

Leaving you uncomfortably numb without much to say

It’s affected how you are, suddenly searching to find

The right path where things were less stressful

It’s a calmer place that made you happier where you could smile

If only you could reach out and touch it, things would be plentiful

Instead of struggling with stuff that’s caused anxiety for a while

You wish things would slow down like before

Those were special moments that last forever

You’d give anything to have it back once more

Every day was great, and felt like it would go on forever and ever

The dark side reminds us of a cold reality

Things change when you least expect it to

Leaving you looking back and feeling pity

If only you realized back then and actually knew

“A Lonely Place”

Inspired by my experience.

“A Lonely Place”

By Derek Felix

I’m a junkie
Who didn’t know
An addicted pill flunky
Just couldn’t say no

It happened so suddenly
On one crazy day
Lost control so stunningly
I didn’t know what to say

Rushed to the doctor
In so much mind-numbing pain
They said it was anxiety
Which had driven me insane

Prescribed pills to help calm me down
Which worked well even if I couldn’t quite tell
When things unraveled, my mind would drown
The panic attacks came as I fell unwell

Pretty soon, I became addicted to Klonopin
I needed it to stay sane
It became a crutch where I couldn’t win
Late night, there were too many images in my brain

Sleep became a problem as I spiraled out of control
The insomnia was all too common for me
The lack of sleep took its toll
I put on a brave face despite the misery

When really it was like being trapped inside a dark place
Nowhere to run or hide
As my heart began to race
It was an emotional  rollercoaster or one hell of a ride

I’m a junkie by choice
Due to my mental health condition
There’s no such a thing as a Rolls Royce
In a world full of shadows and fiction
