“Mary’s Screech” By Derek Felix
The howling wind swirled around
Blowing brown orange colored leaves in the streets
As they nestled a crispy crunch
Playing a mean set of November drums
As they danced in the air for all to see
Including our dog who barked out loud with glee
On their way to a path unknown
As Mary whistled dixie and began to groan
Her screams could be heard through sudden gusts
That blew everything in one direction
Pushing pedestrians backwards into a strong current
Until they turned away from Mary’s screech to avoid her storm
The swirl was felt like a tidal wave
Hitting the beach with a river dampening the sand
As we headed for cover underneath a shelter
To safety inside at a table with candlelight for cocktails
It’s our sweet escape from Mary as her moans fade away
In the distance where things finally dissipate
Followed by an island breeze with a glimpse of sun
That brightens our mood as music plays
We’ll enjoy the funky sound and fancy beats
As we dance under a dim light
Without her loud distraction that made for a hectic day
We’re finally at peace to conclude the day
